Good Website Design Practices
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michelle_Dudley]Michelle Dudley

Your website is where your business resides--it's kinda like the headquarters of an offline company. That is why it is very important to practice good design principles to make sure that it reaches out to the maximum number of people and sells to as many visitors as possible. Make sure that you have clear directions on navigation your website. The navigation menu should be uncluttered and concise so that your visitors can get around without any confusion.

Reduce the number of images that you have on your site. Too many images make your site load very slowly and most of the time they are often unnecessary. If you feel that any image is essential to your site, make sure that you optimize it using image editing programs so that they see a minimum image file size. Keep your content's paragraphs at a reasonable length. If your paragraphs are too long, you should split them up into separate paragraphs so that your text blocks won't be so big. This is very important because a block of text that is too large will deter visitors from reading your content.

Make sure that your website complies with web standards at W3 and make sure that your website will be cross-browser compatible. If your website looks great in Internet Explorer but breaks out of frames in FireFox and Opera, you could lose out of a lot of prospective customers and visitors.

Avoid using script languages on your website unless it is absolutely necessary. Use script languages to handle or manipulate data, not to create visual effects on your website. Heavy scripts will slow down the loading time of your website and even crash some browsers. Some scripts are not supported in all browsers, so some of your visitors may lose out on some important information because of this.

Use CSS to style your page content because it saves a lot of work by styling all the elements on your website in one go.

New Jersey vs New York City Website Development Companies
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Daryl_H._Bryant]Daryl H. Bryant

If you're in the beginning states of developing or re-developing your website and live in the New Jersey / New York metropolitan area, then let me give you a few words of advice - Seek out a reputable New Jersey based website design and development company and compare their services and offerings to those located in New York City / Manhattan. I'm 100% certain you will find highly reputable companies that offer the same services with a more affordable price tag.

Here are a few reasons why I recommend using a New Jersey-based Website Design and Development Company over a New York City / Manhattan-based one.

It's more affordable to use a New Jersey-based company Why is this true? Well think about it. In general, most reputable design and development companies in New York City are located in the center of Manhattan where rent prices and business expenses are twice that of any New Jersey location. When rent prices and expenses increase, what happens to the prices of their services? That's right, they increase as well.

From my experience, you will find website development and design companies to offer their services for half the price of most New York-based companies... even the ones immediately over the NJ border, directly on the other side of the Washington Bridge, Lincoln and Holland Tunnels.

It's easier to get around If you live in New Jersey and need to commute into the City to visit your website development company on a continual basis, then you will find it more difficult to get around to where you need to go. First of all, the traffic in NYC is usually horrendous. Secondly, parking in NYC can be quite expensive. Parking for 1 hour could cost upwards in the area of $30. Whereas parking in NJ is most likely free and traveling to and from your website development company's office will be a more straightforward task.

You will find the same website design and development services Whether you use a [http://www.hudsonhorizons.com ]New Jersey website development company or a New York-based company to perform website services for your business, you will receive similar services from either one. What's offered by one can most likely be offered by the other, you just have to find the right service provider for what you're looking for.

New York City based companies generally have a more prestigious name but what do you care about? Do you care about using a prestigious company or do you care about the end result? If you care about the end result and want to save a few dollars while doing it, then I recommend finding a New Jersey-based website design company who can offer you the same services as a New York-based provider.

Some popular services that you should consider when seeking out a provider are Content Management, e-Commerce, Social Networking, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and e-Marketing.

As you can see, the main reason why I recommend using a New Jersey-based Website Design and Development Company over a New York City based company is price. NYC companies need to charge more because their rent and expenses required to operate their business are much greater than those in New Jersey. If you're a company that wants to cut costs but doesn't want to hold back on quality, then I recommend locating a few website design or development company in New Jersey and see what they offer vs. their counterparts in New York City.

At Hudson Horizons [http://www.hudsonhorizons.com]http://www.hudsonhorizons.com, we provide website design, web development, content management, e-commerce integration, RSS content distribution, [http://sitemap.hudsonhorizons.com target=blank]search engine optimization, e-marketing services and the development of custom applications such as blogs, newsletter systems, online payment solutions and any other Web application that may be needed to help simplify your business.

Interface Design Service Outsourcing for User Optimized Interface
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Harekrishna_P_Patel]Harekrishna P Patel

Almost all the technological inventions being made seems to take in a seamless blend of sophistication and complication at their functioning phase. And it happens quite often that the end-users of these products are nearly blinded of the technicalities involved in them. The growing popularity of computer user interface designing boils down to a concept much similar to this. Creating an effective user interface design is a hard churned out job by a set of highly dedicated designers and software engineers. Here their efforts are weighed based on how well the interface augments the user experience, which is undoubtedly the key to acceptance.

As they say, outsourcing is in the air that has given the global business scenario a perfect facelift in terms of cost-effectiveness and efficiency. And why not, software application development too experiences the boom, with user interface design services being outsourced to far-off nations. From the user perspective, user interface is a collection of well placed controls or displays meant to interact with the computer. So the more simple the design is, the more is its efficacy. Thus creating an effective user interface put complications on the higher side, as it is one among the most decisive components involved in software application designing.

In order to claim a user interface a user optimized interface it asks for a rather systematic approach in the designing front. Accepting the importance and technicalities involved, seeking for professional help is just the way to go about it. By outsourcing interface design services benefits prevail over the few downsides, where it signals not just getting experienced hands on the project, but a cutback in direct staff and cost. By joining hands with the lead players in the industry most of the web-based as well as software application development requirements will be covered. Experts in user interface design can well juggle the hardware and software demands that their clients come up with.

Anyhow, with suitable amount of research and groundwork being applied it wouldn’t be quite a demanding task to make your way to the best players in the field that handle interface design services.

Hi-Tech Outsourcing Services ( http://hitechexport.com/ ) is a certified company that flaunts a solid client base, with their dedicated efforts extending to BPO and KPO services. Seriously into software development and website development services, the company is keen on delivering customized application software solutions. Web Site Design - The Must Do's for a User Friendly Web Site Design
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sean_R_Mize]Sean R Mize

There are large companies out there that hire graphic and web site designers to make sure that the design of their web site is the best. But not all companies can afford the fee of these designers. So if you have a business online and want to polish your web site design, here are some useful must do’s for you.

1. Flash animations are not search engine readable. So if you are using them, you are missing one important way of getting more traffic to your site. Additionally, they are usually in large files so they do not load fast. People may get bored waiting for the page to load. So get away with flash animations.

2. Also, there are times that your page may load slowly if there are a lot of texts or graphics on your web site. You can actually compress the images to make sure that your page will load even the customers are not yet done counting 1 to 5.

3. Check for broken links on your site. You know, you can lose a lot of clients if there are many links that are not working on your site. These broken links will drive away the clients from your site.

4. You can validate the HTML on your site with the use of validation services online. They can help you fix these code errors on your site. Once the HTML codes are right, you can make sure that the customers will have better experience.

5. You should also know if your site is compatible with other browsers. Of course, you would not want to lose other clients just because they are using other browsers. So have your site designed to be compatible with any browser the clients may use

Make Your Website Dynamic
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Maneet_Puri]Maneet Puri

Make your site dynamic! “What do you mean by a dynamic website?” – A website integrated with the database to generate information that visitors see is called a dynamic website. The antonym of dynamic website is a static website, which means that information displayed on the web pages is hard coded in them.

There are many benefits of having a dynamic website – the webmaster can make easy updates to information without fiddling with the source code of the website, generating different forms of information depending upon the visitor or input without creating separate pages for each possible output, give flexibility of adding as many pages as required without manually generating pages and uploading on the server, consistency while displaying information through out the website can be maintained, can offer different features for different type of users to avail services from the website respective to there domain, and the list goes on……

“How can a website be made dynamic?” – Embedding database related codes of any server side scripting language to the pages of website makes the website dynamic. Possible options for the server side scripting language you can use for your website depends on the operating system of the server on which your site is hosted. For Windows based server commonly used languages include PHP, ASP, ASP.NET, C#, Cold fusion etc., and for the Linux based server the options are PHP, Perl, Python, etc.

A considerable number of server side scripting languages are available to choose from but I am found of PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) and always suggest it as the scripting language, the reasons for this liking are: -

a) First it runs on Linux as well as Windows server.

b) It’s a freeware so no cost of purchasing

c) The syntax is easy to learn and get used to.

d) It has a wide range of in-built features

e) Offers connectivity with most of the available database servers

f) Easy installation on server and easy configuration with other third party components

g) Is an object oriented programming language

h) It does not require any plug-in on client’s machine to get executed, it is complied on the server end and outputs the result in the form of HTML.

There are many such features which makes PHP not just my favorite but is a preferred language of many web developers.

“How to check if your server support PHP or not?” – Copy the piece of code below in a text editor and save the file as phpinfo.php, now upload it on your web server in the folder where you upload HTML pages. If it’s root of the server then type the URL http://www.yourdomainname.com/phpinfo.php in the address bar. If the output is a configuration then it means your server supports PHP and if it prompts to save the file then your server does not support PHP, you will have to ask your ISP to enable it for your domain.

Go to http://www.php.net/ to find more, learn and download PHP. Give it a try and you will realize how easy it is to use and to what extent it gives you the flexibility to make your website interactive and feature rich.

A few years ago we had some limited resources to create web development structure unlike modern we development that we were making ours website in simply html, Dhtml with the help of asp back end programming.

Website Content for Artisans and Craftsmen
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Louise_Coulson]Louise Coulson

It is almost a cliché to say that "content is king" when it comes to presenting your website to the public, but it rings true time after time. Even the powers-that-be at the search engines say they are most interested in content. Its time to take them seriously.

Artisans and craftsmen have both advantages and disadvantages when it comes to providing content to site visitors. Your work is fascinating, unique and frequently based in historical tradition. Articles and information about a specific craft, trends, techniques, design, and materials can provide great content for the artisan website, but the articles on your should target your buyer rather than others in your field. We have seen craftsmen and artisans who set up links, articles, tips, and white papers and even tutorials to appeal to others in their field. Obviously, this doesn't make any sense if you are trying to provide content that attracts buyers for your pieces.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and linking campaigns are necessary and fairly simple but time consuming, but it is not all that a site needs to get better positions in the search engines. Your content needs to be well written, current, relevant to your product, unique and accurate.
Your unique content can include some of the following:

Trends in your fieldHow to care for the workHistory of your particular type of workHow to use your pieces with their own wardrobe (if it is wearable art) or in their own homes (if it is a decor or furniture item)Legends about historical pieces similar to your workInformation about materials you useMyths about the raw materialsHistorical information about the origins of your techniquesDo's and Don'ts associated with your pieces (this can about care, use or storage of your pieces)Plans for future piecesA journal showing what is currently on your workbenchAn article describing your design process from idea to completion.Quizzes about some phase of your work from technique to tools or materials.Games such as crossword puzzles or word searches that feature the vocabulary of your type of workA planner or worksheet so your customer can plan how the piece will fit into his or her wardrobe or homeCalendar of your show scheduleScreen savers featuring your pieces

The style of writing used on a Web site is different from that used in print media. People seem to scan pages rather than reading them. Reading from the monitor is tiring for the eyes and is about 25% slower than reading printed material. The Internet is so full of information that the reader will may move on to another site quickly, so information needs to be easily accessible. These basic techniques will help make your content readable and accessible to your visitors.

Use short sentences and paragraphs.Use headlines and sub heads so your reader can scan the page.Check your grammar and spelling.Use lists and bullets for easy accessibility. The font used in your web page needs to be large enough to read - 12. pt. is standard.
Once your site is online, the time spent on the site is either spent on marketing or keeping your content current. Attention to current and relevant content will pay you back in site visitors.

User Interface Design: Key to Achieve Best Web Development
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Nikhil_Salvi]Nikhil Salvi

From early days of www, the Internet sites that are added day by day are increasing tremendously. When you will consider this pool of web, may be they are about computers, industry, entertainment, search engines, fashion, organizational or even individual, all of these sites are concerned about one major part of web development apart from the logic or programming efforts behind it is ‘User Interface Design’.

Any web site will gain your interest by its appearance in front of you as well as ease of using and understanding the contents in that particular page. Therefore many of the web developers out there are always trying to go for the best user interface design which must also be affordable, can be either done by the developer firm or by web developer individual himself or he have to outsource the site for user interface creation.

The main stages in the creation of the user interface can be roughly listed as follows:

1. Note down all the aspects of your web site,

2. Try to list items as per their priority on the web page as well as consider their categorization.

3. From this list highlight points that are required to be catchy (e.g. in most of the general web site the Chat / Mail / News are considered to be the most catchy points whereas on the online shopping site the special offers and hot selling items may be the most catchy points).

4. Then decide the color combination of your interface (As per my point of view this is the most crucial part which many of them out there do not take into consideration which results in to a web site which is nothing but a site full of color in fact site looking like a circus! (You can understand what I want to say). So if you are rally very careful about the richness of the user interface then you should not fail to consider this point.

5. Once you have decided the color combination you have already won half the battle. Now you have to draw a picture of how your web page will look like finally, where on the web page I will place the catchy points I have listed previously, what will be common between the web pages (A date and time may be there from home page to the last page of your web site).

6. Finalize placing of all the remaining points in the list prepared by you.

7. If required repeat the steps for all the succeeding pages in your web site.

8. Then and only then go for designing of the web pages using various tools.

You may take help of various image-editing softwares like Adobe Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, even normal paintbrush for giving effect to the various images, backgrounds used in the page design. You can also embody various animations in your web page to give it a nice touch. You can try Macromedia Flash, GIF Animator or Animationshop for the same.

Some important tips-n-tricks of making your web page look catchier than ever will be discussed in my next articles.

Remember more effective and easier user interface - more the number of visitor (or even customer) who will specially halt at your site to check it out.

Scope and Features of Website Design and Application Development in India
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Varun_Saxena]Varun Saxena

Nowadays, most of the web application development projects fizzle or remain unsuccessful in fulfilling user's requirements. If somehow projects are completed, then they go beyond the set budgets and time lines.

Scope of the Web Application

Prior to start developing a web application, scope of the application should be thoroughly analyzed and documented, considering the users of the product, it's benefits to them, etc..

Competitor Analysis

Review competitor's websites, figure out the goods and bads in the other website. This will help you to know the dos and don'ts which can lead your application overtake your competitors. Additionally you can consider other functionalities that you can add in your web application.

Practical Solutions

Don't rush towards web application development process, before starting the process, thoroughly estimate the time in man- hours, resources needed, etc.. Document everything you discuss, allot and your micro parts of the applications and all complexities involved. This will surely help in making your project a success.

Don't Push your schedule

It is suggested not to push the development process or prepone the schedule for marketing reasons. Modifications in the schedule may lead to several bugs, which may cost even more than the estimated. Hurrying your programmer to complete the modules before the time specified for that, can not help the application development a success. If you are managing the project keep the original estimated time and the development plan and not the exigency.

Quality Testing

Test your application with different possible and impossible parameters as many times as you can. Intensive testing is needed in this competitive product world. Use effective testing tools and methods that most appropriately works with your applications.
Besides product or module testing, everybody involved in the process should follow the standards and procedures of the company. If your team does not have a good stand on Quality you can not achieve quality web application.

Be a little more careful and particular, I am sure your application will be a success. Top Website Design- 3 Vital Elements You Can Learn for the Best Website Design
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Cynthia_Pinsonnault]Cynthia Pinsonnault

A top Website design has 3 things going on that together improve search engine rank and help make customers out of site visitors.

There's usability.

The most important thing to consider is your Website's usability. Everything else in a unique Website design should interact with the usability.

There's search engine optimization.

Search engines are looking for the same things users are looking for in a site and they will recognize and reward a usable Website design. And SEO feeds the Website usability if the site is optimized properly on relevant keywords. For example, the very first part of Web usability is assisting users to find what they are seeking. Good keyword research and placement in your pages does that. So Website usability and search engine optimization work together.

And then the last element is aesthetics.

If Website usability and search engine optimization create an easy-to-find, easy-to-use Website, then aesthetics becomes icing on the cake, creating a unique Website design, building a brand image, making a more inviting site, and helping visitors feel more comfortable, all of which feeds back to the Website usability and search engine optimization results.

You need all 3.

All 3 of these elements go into the unique Website design of a page. All of them are part of designing a Web page and if you leave out any one of them you reduce the effectiveness of the Website design just that much.

Great search engine optimization will only bring people to your Website. It won't make a sale. A gorgeous Website design that no one can find produces nothing. An easily found and beautiful Website that is hard to understand, has very little valuable information and uses sloppy navigation will only hold the Website visitor's attention for so long until they move on to less stressful Websites.

So top Website designs use, first and foremost, good usability techniques because if people get to your Website and they can't use it, then none of the other work has meant anything. So that's first. It has to be a usable Website design. Then, the Website has to be well optimized for search engines so that people will find it. And finally, you want a unique Website design that is professional looking and attractive enough to hold the interest of visitors and make them want to see more.

What can you do to improve the balance between these 3 elements on your Website?

The Site Visitor Contact Method You Must Use on Your Website
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Hugh_Pate]Hugh Pate

The internet is a great place to promote your business or offers. A major part of achieving credibility for yourself, your business, your offer and your website is to have an easy method for people to contact you.

People want to trust who they are dealing with online, and if they can easily find a way to contact you directly, then they will be more likely to do business with you.

Most websites who adhere to this principle usually have a “Contact Us” or “Email Us” link somewhere on their site. Most often this is a simple email link that triggers the user’s email program.

However, using such a method is fraught with problems!

It’s easy for webcrawling software to then go through your site, extract your email address and wham - your email address gets sucked into a spammer’s database! If you’ve been receiving a lot of junk email then this is the most likely way that the spammer has obtained your email address.

However, you can easily combat these email parasite programs, AND enhance your website relationship with your prospective customers at the same time – by using a Contact Form on your website!

A Contact Form is a simple website form that allows a prospect or customer to communicate with you directly on your website, without them having to use their email program. They are also much more likely to communicate with you via a simple web form than by email.

The Contact Form also hides your email address from the spammer’s email webcrawler software. It does this by the use of a special file (called a php file) that contains your email address. When your prospect/customer fills out contact form on your site, and then hits the submit button, the information on the form is immediately sent to your email address. This is done quickly, safely and out of sight of any spammer’s software that may be lurking about.

Here’s a typical [http://www.netsuccesstools.com/contact.html ]website contact form.

A Contact Form like this on your site can also be used for other types of interaction with your site visitors. For example, you can use a form like this to collect customer testimonials, do web surveys, or get feedback on some aspect of your product or site. It’s a great way to build a relationship with your site visitors.

Do yourself a big favour and get one of these forms on your website. It looks much more professional than a simple email link.

Setting up one of these contact forms on your site is very simple. The easiest way is to use a Contact Form Wizard. This does it all for you, and creates the form code and necessary php file. You then just copy and paste the form into your webpage, and include the php file in the same folder on your site. If you don’t have a Contact Form Wizard, you can search for one online, or see the resource box below.

Web Development Techniques for SEO Purposes
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Diarmuid_Ryan]Diarmuid Ryan

There are many simple and effective tweaks that can be applied to a web site right down to underlying application and database. A well coded clear and simple architecture for a web application allows for specific things that make the URL more readable for search engines.

For example if you had an online store and had a URL http://www.where.com/cgi/get_product?product_id=6 for an individual product and an equally complicated URL for store category listings, same problems persist through to content management software.

The solution; transform those nasty URI's into something more pleasant to both the human eye and search engines many eyes. Under the apache web server the process is oh-so quick easy and elegant, as true with most linux server applications. In Apache there are several server configuration directives that allow you to take a simple URL that traslates and expand it to the complex ugly querystrings. So as in our shop example above, lets say we want to display that URI as http://where.com/shop/products/6, of course if would not take much more effort or time to take this a step further by using a descriptive test tag to describe the product in the URI, something along the lines of: /shop/products/samsung_lcd_SD500. In these scenario an apache rewrite directive would be used. You will need to switch on Rewrite Engine in Apache before starting, this is simply done by adding this directive to your apache httpd.conf:
RewriteEngine On

Then we can use our Rewrite directive.

RewriteRule ^/shop/products/([0-9]+)/ /cgi/get_product?product_id=6

As you may notice you can use regular expressions in the rewrite rule, this obviously gives a tremendous amount of power and control of how you translate your URL, keywords can easily be inserted and translated to URL using regular expressions, in this case here we just tell it the URI and that a number must be present to identiy product.

In a case like a content managment system the process is also quite straightforward. If theres only going to be about 10-20 pages on a website it is feasible and practical to use a Redirect directive.

For example:

Redirect /content?go=GetPage&do=display&page_id=1 http://where.com/index.html

This approach is more practical as you can see, but it does not scale to well as a solution, of course the above could be achieved with a rewrite with little though. The full redirect URL is unfortunately needed, a URI alone will not be sufficient.

serurk rewrite & redirects

Web Site Design - Create a Website for Business Success With This Step by Step Help
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alan_Kirby]Alan Kirby

Many of us today find it hard to think of life before computers and the internet. Yet, there is still a lot of confusion about the infrastructure of a website and what it takes to design, create and maintain one. This article outlines the basic steps to help you learn how to make a website.

Domain Name

The best place to start the process is with a name for your site; a domain name. The most popular domains are dot-com names (.com). Also high on popularity are dot-net (.net), dot-org (.org), plus many others including dot-info (.info), dot-biz (.biz) and dot-us (.us).

Unless you are looking for a very unique name, most combinations of one or two common English words with the famed dot-com tag at the end are already claimed. This is where creativity may be required to find ways to make your domain name unique. To start searching for your domain name you’ll need to go to a domain registrar such as Network Solutions. Registering a domain name works essentially like a lease, granting you permission to use the name as long as you maintain the nominal annual fees to keep it registered.

A good domain name should be short, but still reflect your website; you want your visitors to remember their way back. Avoid using initials (unless they are as well known as CBS or NBC). Avoid hyphenation if possible or overly long names. A good domain name is memorable and easy on the tongue. The best test is to find several good candidates and test them by speaking the names out loud. How easy are they to communicate, and to spell? How well do they represent the mission of your site?

In some cases, it may be advantageous to purchase a domain name that someone else has the rights to. The fees for this type of transfer of ownership can command some hefty fees though. Bidding usually starts around $500, but the right name can fetch a million dollars or more.

Organization and Research
Once the domain name is secured, the next step is to create an outline.

Start by creating a list of the ideas to be coveredGroup the ideas into major categories that will become web pagesLook at similar or competitive sites for more ideasThink about how you want your site to lookThink of photos or illustrations that will best complement your messageFind and document examples of web sites that you like the bestSort these ideas into a finished outline
Here are some web design samples that may help you as you consider your options. All of this organization and research may sound a lot like what you learned in English class you were paying attention weren’t you?

Selecting Keywords

Keywords are a group of words that best describe the topic of your site. They are the group of words your customers would use to find you in a web search. For example, if you sell eyeglasses, and you only use the words “eyeglasses” to describe your products but your potential customer searches for “prescription lenses” or “designer frames” your website will probably not be found.

Finding the best and most popular keywords and using them effectively is a vital part of driving more traffic to your site. For best results you should use a keyword research tools like Wordtracker. Wordtracker can compile a list of terms people search for, indicate how often they are searched for, and even help you discover keywords you may not have considered. Developing a database of customer searched keywords will help to focus the efforts of the next step most successfully; the script.

Writing The Script

Writing a script for the web is not like writing a book. Most people will read at least a chapter of a book before giving up. Web pages however, are not treated the same. After all there are just too many choices! We live in a “sound bite” world and surfing the net is no different. When a visitor comes to your web page you have between five and ten seconds to impress them that they are in the right place before they reach for the back key on their browser to search out the next candidate. Your web pages need a clear and easily understood message with interesting graphics, good pictures and a great script.

A great script on the web is short, to the point and broken up into easy to digest pieces. It is filled with keywords pertinent to your topic, but not to the detriment of your message. Effective use of headlines, sub-headers, bold or italicized phrases, links, bullet points and other lists all can work together to make your message stand out and tell the story. The headline can also be a creative tool to capture the desired attention.

Whew, don’t despair! The best way to start the process of script writing is to go back to the outline. Write the first draft and then start refining the results. Don’t forget about other things already written like brochures, flyers, and other advertising. This may provide a better base to build upon, while generating fresh ideas in the process.

Like the sculptor who chips away stone to create a beautiful statue one hammer stroke at a time. Great scripts are written very much the same way. Read through, change and improve again and again. When you think you are done read your script out loud. Keep working until the desired result is there.

All About Links

There are two basic types of links on a website; forward links and backward links. Simply put, forward links connect to other pages and sites. In order to be useful the links should be relevant to your topic. Create links to professional organizations you belong to, equipment or software related to your topic, or articles of interest to your readers. Use your imagination.

Backward links are links from other sites to you. Again, the key is to have relevant information about your topic on the page with a link to your site. Possible sources are web directories, blog links, forum posts or social networks such as digg.com and technorati.com.

Why are links so valuable? They make your web site more important to search engines like Google and Yahoo. The more backward links you have from pertinent sources, and forward links to relevant information, the better your site will be ranked; and that will help you to get found.

Photography One picture is worth a thousand words; and a great picture will help communicate your message quickly. Pictures can:

Grab the attention of visitorsConvey the importance of your company or projectIllustrate an important pointCreate warmth and strong feelingsIllustrate your product or service

Whether you have digital photos or scans of slides and film, having a number of good and appropriate pictures on your site can make a huge difference.

Graphics and Design

This is the stage where the basic shape of the site page is formed. There are many decisions to be made such as:

What does the banner header and footer look like? What shapes and lines will provide the page form? What color palette should be used? What monitor resolution should the page be designed for?How are other resolutions going to be accommodated?Where should the primary page links be?Will there be secondary links and/or drop down menus? How will the logo be incorporated?

Needless to say, this is a very important step in the process, as the look of the entire site will depend upon the decisions made here. Unless you are an experienced web designer, your company or organization will undoubtedly benefit from using a professional web design company for this phase. Graphics and design is where art meets form.

Creating Template Pages

Once the Graphics and Design step has been completed and approved by the client, a template page is usually created. Often there are different templates used for the home page, and for other pages; but the idea here is to create a working model that can be used for page layout. One key advantage of using template pages is changes universal to the site, such as the information in the header or footer, can be changed once on a single form, rather than changing many individual pages.

Page Layout

Having a completed script is certainly a tremendous head start for web page layout; but creating a well laid out web page involves more than cut-and-paste. There are many nuances that must be worked out in the process of converting from a word processor to a HTML page. Emphasizing headlines, creating bullet points, establishing boundaries around photos and designing the flow of a page is all part of the process.

Cascading Style Sheets

Cascading Style Sheets, or CSS for short are valuable tools for the competent web designer. They provide the instruction set that defines the color, size, position and other parameters of each class of text, graphics and other elements on a website. The CSS can also create challenges for the designer, as different browser editions will display a page differently than the others. This means that provisions and workarounds are frequently required in order to maintain a consistent look and feel across various platforms.

Form Pages and Programming Form pages are used to collect information or to do other jobs on a web page. Examples include:

Email forms that protect the recipient from SPAMInformation forms for collecting data such as name, address, phone, etc.Calculation forms to add, multiply or perform more complex equationsUpload forms allowing users to send attachment

More complex forms are possible such as applications, and ecommerce Upon submitting a form multiple actions can be taken such as sending an email to the website administrator, in addition to sending an automated response to the sender.

Email@

One of the benefits of having a dedicated domain is the ability to keep the same email address, regardless of who your internet service provider (ISP) is. If you’re ever had to switch from one ISP to another you know what I mean. The ability to set up nearly limitless email addresses @yourdomain.com can provide the capacity for your organization to grow without fear of running out of names.

E-Commerce Web Site

If you want to sell your wares on the internet you may be ready for an ecommerce solution. This will allow you to reach an audience 24/7 that may otherwise be inaccessible to your goods and services. Once your shopping cart solution is in place; listing photos, descriptions and prices of your products are only the start. A successful ecommerce site is tuned to achieve the best conversion rate, making sure that each step along the buying process is comfortable and assuring to your shoppers.

Page Optimization

A good web site should be optimized for:

• Quick downloads of pictures, graphics, and other elements

• Good navigation that is easy to understand

• Logical organization and grouping of pages

• Good page names making information easy to find

• Good titles and subtitles to allow quick information scanning

Web Server or Web Host

The Web Server is the real computer where your web site is stored. It could be in your office. It could be provided by your web developer, a web host service in your town, or hundreds of miles away. Since it is connected to computer users from around the world, it’s really not so important. What is important is:

Is it fast? Will it allow multiple users access at the same time?Is it well connected? Can the photos and videos be efficiently downloaded? Is it secure and safe from hackers and intruders? Is it backed up? What if the power goes off?

Website Updates and Maintenance

A good web site is one that changes on a regular basis. Depending on the design, these updates can be made by the average user or performed by your web developer. Your site should reflect:

New products being addedNew announcement being madeA shift in policy or directionNew employees added

Big projects being completed Your web site is your communication tool with the world. In order to maintain the interest of viewers it needs to stay fresh with new information all of the time. This is also key to creating better content, and better content is key to being highly ranked by search engines. The more highly ranked your site is the more likely you are to be found by your customers.

Website Advertising and Promotion

The best website in the world will not be found without doing something to get the word out. Using good keywords, getting links to your site, and making regular changes to your content are good choices to promote and raise the visibility of your site, but those methods take time. A much quicker method is through the use of pay-per-click campaigns.

Pay-per-click advertising is provided by the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN and others. It is a fast track method to buy visibility on the first page for searches pertinent to your content or chosen keywords. The basic steps to create a pay-per-click campaign are:

Select keywords that your customers might use to search for your servicesSet a geographic area for your ads to appearWrite ad copy to attract customers to click on your adsSet a maximum amount that you will pay per clickSet a daily maximumYou pay only for clicks to your web site

Your ad will appear in the area marked sponsored listings. It will be higher or lower than the other sponsored listings based on the maximum bid that you offer in relation to the others, among other factors. The cost to have good visibility on a page will depend largely upon the amount of competition for the keywords being bid on.

Don’t overlook using some of the simplest forms of advertising to help get the word out such as adding your website address to your business cards, flyers, newspaper ads, to the bottom of every email you send out, etc. If you already have brochures printed, get some printed labels to apply with the new information. If you use methods like radio, television or billboards be certain that your website is present in those ads too. This form of advertising is generally called cross-promotion. The web is a 24/7 sales agent that can only work if it can be found.

Web Design Services

Designing a web site design for your company or organization is an important task. This guide seeks to provide a simple overview to help you to understand and prepare for the steps involved. Knowing what to expect as you create your website, whether through the services of a professional web designer or creating it on your own will help you achieve the best results possible.

Web Designing In Context Of Design
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tamil_Selvi]Tamil Selvi

Be it any type of designing, design means a creation, fashioning, execution, or construction according to plan. A plan to execute another plan and it also means the result of that plan. Thus it is very essential that these plans and designing follow their own principles and consist of their own elements.

Web designing forms an important part in the process of web promoting or web hosting. Be it any part of world, web designing in Vancouver or Kelowna web hosting, web designing has to follow certain codes of principles and the elements have to be encompassed. How do the normal principles and elements of design fit into the web designing agenda?

Elements

The elements are the most important parts of the design as they constitute the building blocks. The more powerful web pages can be got from these elements as they are what your pages are. The important elements are shape, texture, color, lines and line works. Special care must be taken in planning and organizing the elements.

Principles

The principles are helpful in putting the elements of web design in a track and make it more presentable. The more effective page can be given with the greater principles. The important things to be considered are the balance of the elements, contrast, emphasis, repetition and the proximity to put them altogether.

If these fundamentals of designing are applied to the web designing, web hosting in Kelowna or Vancouver web designing or any web hosting with web designing can go places.

You Need RSS, Atom, and ROR XML Codes on Your Website!
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Karen_Peralta]Karen Peralta

Do you have a website? If so, you need an ROR XMLNS code button which leads to a full ROR/RDF code page for your website. This code tells search engines all about the special details you input into the code about your website. For example, it tells them special details about each particular product (or certain special ones) that you sell on your site or sites, it tells the search engine bots your contact information such as your business address and phone number (without informing the entire universe, as the code is invisible to all but you and the search engine bots examining your website), it gives info on special other links you want the search engine bots to associate with your website, and it gives any other such major info that you want the big search engines to explore and know all about from your website.

That's why you need this latest and greatest in Internet code technology: the ROR/RDF XMLNS code. It's a form of XML that doesn't validate like an RSS or Atom feed does; it validates through the RDF Validation Service. You can look that up on the Net, and you'll see what I mean. Meanwhile, there's the matter of the Really Simple Syndication and the Atom XML codes. These codes DO validate through RSS Validation sites as regular feed codes. These codes, also known as feeds, can be taken by people visiting your website and input into their own RSS and Atom feed readers, such as RSS Reader (which you can download for free off of their website) and other news aggregators and feed readers.

These codes are great for spreading news on your website around. Basically, they each introduce important parts of your website -- or even your whole site in its entirety -- if you choose that you want to spread every page around to the general public through what's normally known as news and blog aggregation readers and services. You can find these services on websites all over the Web, and they're rapidly gaining in use and popularity. A good example of such a service is the NewsIsFree website, a news aggregator. These services usually take news feeds of all kinds and some blogs, plus they're starting to take advertisement feeds. This latter portion is a bit of a worry due to the fact that spyware and adware can thus be passed in a widespread manner all around the WWW.

This is being looked into very seriously by the experts. Most people are concerned that RSS will be used like a tool for this, so please be careful about copying RSS advertisement feeds into your news or blog feeds aggregator. The news and the normal daily or weekly expression blog feeds should be perfectly safe, for now. You should be able to scan RSS and Atom feeds for all types of malware someday in the not too distant future.

The RSS and Atom feeds are attached generally to little tiny orange buttons labeled "XML" and nothing more. Sometimes Atom feeds are attached to little blue buttons labeled "ATOM". The buttons are less than half an inch long and only a few centimeters wide, and would be very hard to see if it weren't for their bright coloration. The type they sport is a bright white, too. Some services are starting to use slightly larger and more visible but similar buttons for their particular XML-related services. The ROR/RDF XMLNS buttons are a little bigger, being an inch long, but are the same thickness as the RSS/Atom buttons and are half orange and half grey. They say "ROR" in the orange portion and "INFO" on the grey side, off-center. They also have a light yellow line around each portion and the margin of the button, plus the type is a light yellow, making them a bit easier to see without being so brightly colored. They're mostly placed visibly on your site in order to boast that you now sport ROR/RDF code on your website.

You can go ahead and even input the code directly into your site without ever bothering to use one of the colorful but dull ROR buttons. Just upload the code in an ror.xml text file into the root directory of the site. You will have to do this whether you show the button or not, anyway, and you also have to do this in the case of the RSS and Atom codes. They upload as feed.xml and atom.xml or something very similar to that in most cases. There is some leeway when assigning the filenames to these special XML codes, but they have to be uploaded as text files into your website's root directory. You might, however, want to display one or more of the ROR buttons on your website, preferably on your site map or home page, as this button is solely there so that search engines can pick up valuable information you want to share with them about your website.

The more such links you have, the more often major search engine bots will pick up on them, you see. So we advise you to proudly display that you have ROR/RDF code on your website. We suggest you definitely get at least an ROR code for your website to raise your rankings in the search engines, or to keep them high, and an RSS code for a website feed for your valuable website or websites. Remember that you can hook up more than one website in a single feed or one ROR/RDF file code. This is one thing that makes these special codes so popular and valuable to users.

You will see a variety of little buttons on several of the websites you are visiting nowadays, especially the major company ones. Probably, you've already seen them, and now you know what they are! Pretty soon nobody will be able to do without these little "pill" buttons to advertise all of the services they have to offer their commercial or even their personal public.

We believe a professional should build your codes for you, but if you have the time, there are website tutorials on the Net that show you how to slowly or swiftly learn, depending on your speed, how to write validatable XML code. This can be quite complicated, so we are highly recommending that you use professional services. Please begin today to see exactly what can be done for you in the realm of authoring these somewhat complicated yet streamlined and enormously useful XML codes.

POSTSCRIPT TO ARTICLE: Nowadays you also need a Google Sitemap for your website to make it properly Google-friendly. A professional can save you the time and trouble of building you an extremely Google-friendly sitemap, or you can read the Google tutorials on their site for Google Sitemaps and figure out how to build your own sitemap or sitemaps.

Illusion Technologies: Web Development

Any Beginner Internet Marketer Can Build a Website in Three Easy Steps
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Linda_Joseph]Linda Joseph

Designing a website is not that difficult and it is actually fun! I have been teaching website design for a couple of years and my students are thrilled with exploring this creative outlet. Some of learning web site design for fun while most of the are quite serious about starting an Internet business.

In order to get starting creating you web page, I would recommend that you first think about the goal of your website and what you want to accomplish. I know it is difficult to take the time upfront to think about such mundane things like purpose. Believe me, this will save you time in the long run. (This topic is covered in another article.)

The next step is to learn HTML. I know you are going to cringe at this recommendation. But hold on. It really is fairly simple to learn. This is one of the languages used to create a website. Your browser then interprets the language and displays what was written. It will just take a couple of hours of your time. (I have some great resources listed that will help you learn HTML is less than two hours!)

HTML is just a simple language used to tell a browser what a website looks like. Most of us have had some type of language in high school. Learning Spanish or French is much more difficult than learning Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML)!

One of the things I love about HTML is it is very logical and follows a set of simple rules. Each task you want performed has a certain tag. In that tag you can usually specify some of the attributes of the tag. For instance, in the font tag you can tell the browser what style of of font, the size, and the color you want. If you don't get what you want, you look at the rules and find out which one you broke. Fix the error and you will get your desired look.

I'm afraid that I digress. (I have written an ebook on HTML and have several resources available for you on my website.) After you learn HTML, I recommend that you use an editor to actually make your website. Using an editor is like creating a Microsoft Word document. It is a WYSIWYG format - What You See Is What You Get. The editor makes designing a web page extremely easy.

You may be asking, "Then why learn HTML?" That is a valid question. Knowing HTML has saved me hours of time. Once you learn HTML you will find yourself fixing problems, diagnosing error by looking at the code. If you learn the HTML first then you will know it and have it at you disposal any time you need it.

Back to editors. There are many HTML editors. The most popular are Macromedia Dreamweaver and Microsoft Frontpage. I have used both and like both. There are also several free editors. The one I use in my classes is NVu. It is a great editor and my students have picked it up quickly. If you are going to create a lot of websites, then I would recommend investing in Dreamweaver or Frontpage.

There are several different web page builders available with your hosting. These are nice to get started quickly. However, you will find that there are severe limitations. I recommend that you not go this route. You will save time in the long run.

There you have it - three easy steps to designing your website!
Step 1: Purpose
Step 2: Learn HTML
Step 3: Design a website with an editor

You can learn this on your own but I recommend: take a class, learn it fast, be online in no time!
